My Momma Could Sing

My Mom Had a Beautiful Voice.

Some of my earliest memories are of my mom singing. When I was 4, I remember her and my dad traveling from church to church to perform. They were invited to sing at all different locations, traveling for hours. At numerous places, many faces watched my parents on the stage. When my dad was a preacher at a small country church, they would take center stage every week with their singing. My mom had even gotten the lead roll in an Easter play at a different church and people would come from miles around to watch her perform. (I had thought that my mom studied theater when she went to college because she was always in the drama club pictures, but it turned out that she was studying to be a teacher). For several years they would sing at that little country church, that was until my parents decided that it was time to take the show on the road and become evangelical singers. Once again they would travel from church to church spreading the gospel with their songs. They would sing most every week at a base home church, but every few weeks, they were back on the road. When I was thirteen, I asked my dad to teach me how to play the bass guitar, and a week later we were on the road (although I only knew the basics). For six years I traveled with my parents, performing at churches, carnivals, fairs and nursing homes (every Sunday after church, we would pack up the gear and go bring church to the residents). The fairs were always a marathon, we would perform several times a day, all week long. We drew the crowds in.
For the most part, they would sing duets together, but there were some songs that my mom would sing solo. There were some songs that she loved singing and others that she didn't like, (there was always a request for one of the songs she didn't like singing). She would always give it her all, no matter what, because she felt that she was doing for the glory of God. (She would even sing if she had a soar throat). She had a beautiful voice and always pitch perfect.
Both my parents past away a few years back (within months of each other. My mom died while praying and my dad died a few months later). I don't know of any recordings of them singing that may have survived, but I can still hear them singing every now and then, especially my mom, when she use to sing "It Is Finished".
